Stirring Up Change In a Community Near You

Teen Battle Chef, is a program of FamilyCook Productions in over 75 schools and community sites across the U.S. Over half are sponsored in high schools by HealthCorps. This blog began in summer 2010 when FamilyCook invited NYC Teen Battle Chefs to participate in internships working with chefs in restaurants, teaching younger children cooking, growing food in food deserts, and cooking in farmers markets across 5 boroughs. In fall 2010, our program continues and thanks to Robin Quivers, her run in the NYC Marathon in November, will provide critical funding so our Teen Battle Chef programs in CT and in HealthCorps schools in NJ can experience these transformational internships as well.

Move about Myrtle

This event took place at Myrtle ave in Brooklyn and we had alot fun. We got to talk to others and present the healthy spicy corn salad dish we were making right there! Over the summer I did not present as much for my internship and this tested my presentation skills and allowed me to improve my "chefness". I really had fun talking to others about the dish and telling them how to become healthier. -Joel

Move about Myrtle was so much fun!..Fernando and I cooked a tofu stir fry which was delicious! The entire day we had little helpers that helped chop and put food in the pot, they were so excited and interested in what we were doing. That day we shared alot about TeenBattle Chef and what we stand for. I love doing events like that and i can't wait till there is a another! -Janiel

4 Food Contest

The 4food contest was AWESOME!! It was like a reality show, very suspenseful. The chemistry in the kitchen was great my partner Molly and I work really well together. The professional kitchen we were allowed to work in really motivated us to do our best and get our recipe perfect. As each recipe went out for the judges to taste we all sat in suspense until it was our turn to present. At the end they rated each of our dishes and gave us negative and positive feedback. Even though our area was messy we had the best dish and my team WON! Now our recipe is on the 4food fall menu and I go there all the time, I love the restaurant. We were also given real chef knives and a professional 4food chef's coat. It was a great experience. -Joel

Hey im molly and i am a teen battle cheif. But what is teen battle cheif and what do they do? Teen battle cheif is a nyc program founded the family cook production. We are a group of high school students that have a passion for cooking and knowing whats going into our body. And what we do is educate the people that surround us. This summer i entered the 4food competition. What is 4food you ask? Well, 4food is a fastfood resturant. Not just any kind of fast food. Actually what is served at 4food is organic and is really good for your body. They have doughnut shaped burgers and in the middle a veggie scope is served. Actually that was the whole idea of the competition. Me and my partner Joel were competing against two other groups for our veggie scoop to be on the menu. We made Chinese braised Kale with carrots and bell peppers. It was an amazing experience to actually be cooking in a professional kitchen. No kidding it was very difficult but it was worth it because now we have our recipe on the menu! How awesome is that? Amazing because now im one step closer to my dream. To help the world make better eating decisions.
